Percusounds Festival with the support of EFFEA – the European Fund for Emerging Artrists and the European Union, presents: SOTAK "All this time, it was Samba that took care of me" sings Karla da Silva in one of the tracks from Sotak. And it truly was. The sambista and songwriter’s fourth solo album, set to debut on stage in November, pays tribute to the musical genre she considers her mother tongue, while also honoring her own personal journey. The ten new original songs on the album reflect the album’s title and are synonymous with Karla da Silva’s rhythmic cadence, both in her powerful voice and the overall sound. The starting point is the traditional rodas de samba (samba circles) from popular neighborhoods at Rio de Janeiro, like Madureira, one of the birthplaces of samba and the area where she grew up. Karla da Silva's accent is also contemporary, shaped by an award-winning career. A semifinalist on The Voice Brasil, Karla da Silva knows that "the hand that joins in prayer also beats the drum" bringing the influence of Candomblé, the Afro-Brazilian religion she practices, into her compositions. "A young Brazilian artist closely observed for some time now, Karla da Silva has everything to please, without ever reducing her expression to shallow seductions" wrote French music critic Jacques Denis about Sotak. The text, published in La Terrasse magazine, highlights the artist’s "powerful voice" which creates "a clear image of a music often reduced to banal clichés".
